How to Inspect a CS2 Skin Before Buying

Check the actual weapon, finish, wear and extras before paying for a CS2 listing.

THE KEY POINT

Inspect the item being sold, then check it again in the final transaction.

01

Start with the full item name

Two listings can share a weapon and finish but represent different items. Check the exterior and whether the name includes StatTrak or Souvenir. A cropped screenshot can hide exactly the information you need to compare.

Write down the properties you want before browsing. This turns a vague search for a good-looking skin into a short checklist you can apply consistently.

02

Use the listing’s own inspect view

Open the inspection associated with the actual listing. Rotate the weapon and look at the areas visible when you play, rather than relying on a seller’s promotional image. Valve’s finish documentation explains why wear and pattern placement can change the appearance of a finish.

For a pattern-sensitive finish, compare the actual placement. For a sticker craft, examine each visible sticker and its position. A matching name does not make two crafts visually identical.

03

Compare like with like

Compare listings with the same relevant properties. A cheaper ordinary version is not a useful benchmark for a StatTrak listing, and the asking price of a heavily decorated craft is not evidence of a completed sale.

Set your total spending limit before continuing. Include the checkout amount and any separately displayed charges; the advertised item price alone may not be your final cost.

A practical comparison
Listing ASame finish and exterior; no stickers
Listing BSame finish and exterior; different visible stickers
Next stepInspect both and decide whether those extras matter to you

04

Check the item at the last step

On Steam, inspect the item details in the final trade offer and verify the account involved. Stop if the offer contains a different variant or if someone asks you to transfer the item to a separate “verification” account.

Keep the listing reference and transaction record. They give support something concrete to investigate if the item delivered differs from the item ordered.

BEFORE YOU CONTINUE
