THE KEY POINT
A standalone sticker and a weapon carrying that sticker are different purchases.
01
Identify the inventory item
Read the listing name before looking at the artwork. An unused sticker is an inventory item; a weapon with an applied sticker is a weapon listing. Buying the latter does not also give you a separate unused copy of the sticker.
When comparing prices, keep those two types of listing separate. The price of an unused sticker is not automatically an amount you can add to the resale value of every weapon showing it.
02
Check the exact visual variant
Valve’s sticker documentation describes different material treatments, including glossy, paper-backed, foil and holographic designs. Similar artwork can therefore appear differently under lighting. Read the variant in the listing rather than identifying it from a tiny thumbnail.
Inspect the actual weapon if appearance matters to you. Look at sticker placement and how much of the design is visible from normal viewing angles.
03
Separate sticker condition from weapon wear
A weapon’s exterior label describes its finish. It does not provide a complete description of the stickers attached to it. Valve documents sticker wear separately from weapon finish wear.
Compare the visible sticker design, not only the weapon’s exterior label. If a screenshot obscures a sticker, use an inspect view before deciding that the craft matches another listing.
| Unused sticker | Compare exact name and visual variant |
|---|---|
| Stickered weapon | Compare weapon, finish and applied layout |
| Two similar crafts | Inspect placement and visible sticker condition |
04
Buy the craft for what it is
Decide whether you want the standalone collectible or the appearance of a particular weapon. For a craft, compare other weapon listings with similar layouts instead of treating the full retail cost of every sticker as a guaranteed premium.
Save the listing details and check the weapon again at delivery. Neither a seller’s description nor an attractive screenshot replaces checking the actual item.
